The Controller Area Network (CAN bus) is a low-cost communication protocol for automotive and industrial use. It allows Engine Control Unit (ECUs) to communicate without dedicated analog signal wires, reducing costs and architectural complexity. High-speed bus lines are resistant to electrical disturbances, and some controllers and receivers are available in industrial/extended temperature ranges or fault-resistant varieties. CAN also enables over-the-air firmware updates, saving engineering design time. The element14 portfolio covers all CAN functions and power modes, offering high EMC performance, quality, and a multi-sourced industrial base. We provide multiple CAN solutions, including MCUs and processors with integrated CAN controllers, transceivers, System Basis Chips, development tools, and software.
The CAN families include a complete CAN Flexible Data Rate (FD) 5 Mbit/s portfolio with high EMC performance, galvanic isolation up to 5 kV, and CAN Signal Improvement Capability (SIC) transceivers to create complex, high-speed CAN FD networks. CAN transceivers support the latest-generation MCUs with 3.3 V / 5 V I/O, 24 V systems, and robustness up to ±58 V. Secure CAN and partial networking (PN) HS CAN, with selective wake-up for reduced power consumption, are also included, as well as Legacy CAN, featuring single-wire and fault-tolerant CAN transceivers.
The 3.3 V / 5 V I/O CAN Transceivers Portfolio includes various high-speed products. The TJA1042 is a standby-mode high-speed CAN transceiver purposely designed for low-power nodes, while the TJA1043 offers fail-safe and diagnostic features for enhanced system reliability and power management. The TJA1044 is a standby-mode high-speed CAN transceiver for automotive applications, and the TJA1044V provides a CAN protocol controller and the physical two-wire CAN bus interface, thereby improving EMC and ESD performance and a very low current standby mode with bus wake-up capability.
The CAN FD Portfolio includes various high-speed CAN transceivers with standby mode, fail-safe features, and advanced power management. These transceivers provide interfaces between a CAN protocol controller and the physical two-wire CAN bus. Some models offer improved EMC and ESD performance along with a very low current standby mode and bus wake-up capability. The TJA1145A is a high-speed CAN transceiver for partial networking, offering CAN FD data rates up to 5 Mbit/s and ISO 11898-2 (2016) compliance. The TJA144x family includes transceivers that provide an interface between a CAN or CAN Flexible Data Rate (FD) protocol controller and the physical two-wire CAN bus. The UJA1161ATK and UJA1162ATK are self-supplied high-speed CAN transceivers with standby and sleep modes, respectively, designed for automotive applications. The UJA1166ATK is a high-speed CAN transceiver with sleep mode, incorporating a 5 V CAN supply for on-board loads.
